The Colts seemed to be in trouble right away when Devin Hester ran back the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and Manning was picked off on his first drive. After Reggie Wayne and Muhsin Muhammad traded touchdowns, the Bears led 14-6. Then the Colts took control. They moved the ball well on five consecutive possessions and built a 22-14 lead. The Bears crept within 22-17 in the fourth quarter and had the ball at their own 38, but little-known second-year cornerback Kelvin Hayden intercepted a Rex Grossman pass and ran it back 56 yards for a clinching touchdown. The Colts won their first NFL title since representing Baltimore in Super Bowl V.
